Derivative Astrology: The Astrology Technique That Lets You Read Other People's Lives Through Your Chart
One of the most mind-blowing astrology techniques I've ever learned is called Derivative Astrology.
And honestly?
The first time I learned it, I thought there was no way it could actually work.
Then I started testing it.
On my own family.
On clients. On friends. On celebrities.
And the more I tested it, the more my jaw hit the floor.
Because somehow...
Your birth chart contains information about the people in your life too.
Your spouse. Your children. Your siblings. Your parents.
Even your grandchildren.
Let's talk about how.
What is Derivative Astrology?
Derivative Astrology is a technique where we derive the charts and life experiences of other people through the houses in your own birth chart.
Instead of looking at another person's chart directly, we use your chart as the starting point.
Think of it like looking at life through someone else's perspective.
For example:
The 5th House represents your first child
The 7th House represents your spouse
The 3rd House represents your siblings
The 4th House represents your parents and family
From there, we can derive additional houses and information about those people.
And this is where things get really interesting.
Your First Child in Astrology
The 5th House is traditionally associated with children.
But in Derivative Astrology, it can also tell us about the energy of your first child.
The sign ruling your 5th House often shows qualities your first child may embody.
I've seen this play out so many times that I now actively look for it.
Not necessarily as an exact Sun sign.
But as a strong theme in their chart or personality.
Your Second Child
To find the second child, we combine the symbolism of the 5th House and the 7th House.
This is because the 7th House is the third house from the 5th House.
In Derivative Astrology, we continue counting houses from houses.
This creates an entirely new layer of chart interpretation.
And honestly?
It's one of the reasons astrology never gets boring.
There is always another layer.
Reading Relationships Through Derivative Astrology
One of my favorite applications of this technique is relationships.
When I do relationship readings, I frequently use Derivative Astrology alongside synastry.
Because it can tell us things that traditional synastry sometimes misses.
For example:
What does your spouse do for work?
What are their major life themes?
How do they experience relationships?
What role do they play in your life?
The answers can often be found through the derivative houses.
The Kardashian Example That Blew My Mind
One of my favorite astrology experiments involved the Kardashian family.
Their family is huge.
Most of their birth information is public.
And they provide an incredible case study for testing astrology techniques.
Looking at Kris Jenner's chart, we can derive information about her children through the houses associated with each child.
Her first child corresponds with Capricorn symbolism through her 5th House.
Kourtney Kardashian happens to have an extremely prominent Capricorn Moon and strong Capricorn themes throughout her chart.
Then we move to the next child.
Kim Kardashian.
Through derivative techniques, Pisces symbolism becomes highly relevant.
And what do we find?
Kim's Moon is in Pisces.
Again.
And again.
And again.
The patterns keep showing up.
Not always literally.
But symbolically.
Which is exactly how astrology tends to work.
Derivative Astrology for Marriage
One of the most fascinating uses of derivative astrology is marriage.
Your 7th House represents your first marriage or long-term partnership.
From there we can continue deriving houses to examine additional partnerships and relationship themes.
This is one of the techniques I often combine with:

to get a fuller picture of someone's relationship story.

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about astrology is that the birth chart only describes you.

Start Simple
If you're new to Derivative Astrology, don't worry about memorizing every derivative house immediately.
Start with:
3rd House = siblings
4th House = parents
5th House = first child
7th House = spouse
Then begin noticing the signs and planets connected to those houses.
You may be surprised how closely they describe the people in your life.
