The Vertex in Astrology: The Point of Fated Encounters
Recently when I was on a TikTok livestream, people kept asking about the Vertex in astrology—and almost everyone agreed: there isn’t much clear, helpful info out there about it.
So here we are. I haven’t seen anyone else talking about this in a way that clicks.
And, naturally, when I dove into the research around this using my chart and allll the people I’ve met who’ve had an impact on me… the data was substantial. Almost everyone in my life that has helped me through a major shift (either positively or negatively, lol) there was SOMEthing going on with the Vertex of my chart, their chart, or both.
Let’s start with the basics…
What IS the Vertex in Astrology?
The Vertex (Vx) is a calculated point in your chart, much like your Midheaven/MC, it is not a planet. It sits on the western side, where the ecliptic meets the horizon, often near the Descendant.
The Vertex is calculated at the point where the ecliptic (Sun’s path) crosses the Prime Vertical (east–west circle overhead) on the western horizon. That’s why it often falls in the relationship-oriented houses (5th–9th) — the part of the chart that deals with others.
It can be in the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, or even 9th, Houses. Because of this, the Vertex represents what comes into your life from the outside—the people, opportunities, and events that feel like fate winking at you.
The Vertex as the Point of Fate
If your natal chart is the script of your movie, the Vertex is the plot twist you didn’t see coming but was always meant to happen.
Signs = the energy
Planets = characters
Houses = setting
Aspects = storyline
Vertex = the portal moment
The Vertex shows those bigger-than-you synchronicities: the “accidental” meeting at a coffee shop that changes everything, the unexpected conversation that redirects your career, the feeling of destiny you can’t explain.

Vertex in the Natal Chart
Your natal Vertex shows where and through what themes these fated encounters tend to happen:
5th House Vertex → Fated encounters often arrive through romance, creative expression, fun, and children. This can look like meeting someone in a playful setting—dating, art, performance, hobbies—or through your own child/children. These relationships or events awaken your joy, passion, and creativity. A 5th house Vertex reminds you that destiny isn’t always heavy—it can arrive through pleasure, attraction, and play.
6th House Vertex → “Fated” moments come through work, routines, health, and service. This could be meeting a significant person at your job, during a workout class, or in the middle of an ordinary errand. It teaches that the sacred and the life-changing can be hidden in the mundane—destiny doesn’t always shout, sometimes it whispers during your morning coffee run.
7th House Vertex → Partnerships are the clear portal here—romantic, business, or otherwise. With this placement, it’s common to experience relationships that feel predestined or magnetic, often showing up suddenly. But the 7th house Vertex isn’t only about “meeting the one.” It’s about mirrors. People who arrive through this placement show you yourself, and even if they don’t stay forever, they permanently shape how you relate, love, and partner.
8th House Vertex → Life-changing encounters are connected to intimacy, transformation, shared resources, or loss. These meetings often have a karmic or magnetic feel, pulling you into deep soul work. Someone might come into your life and completely alter your inner world—exposing fears, dissolving old patterns, and guiding you through a rebirth. With this placement, the Vertex acts like a phoenix gate: through connection, you’re transformed.
9th House Vertex → Fated encounters through travel, education, spiritual teachers, philosophy, or culture. Meeting someone abroad who alters your worldview, or a mentor who changes your direction, are common themes. This placement is about destiny opening your mind—expanding what you thought was possible. With a 9th house Vertex, synchronicity shows up in faraway places, classrooms, retreats, or even in books and teachings that land in your hands at the exact right moment.
The sign of your Vertex colors the energy of how these encounters arrive—whether fiery and bold in Aries, grounded and practical in Virgo, or mystical and intuitive in Pisces.
Transits to the Vertex
When planets transit or activate your Vertex, they act like a cosmic spotlight pulling certain people and opportunities into your orbit.
Sun or Moon conjunct Vertex → meaningful days with chance meetings or realizations (check for what Houses these planets rule in your chart for more insight).
Venus conjunct Vertex → powerful relationship shifts or attractions (check for what House Venus rules in your chart for more insight).
Mercury conjunct Vertex → a fated conversation that may shift your mindset or alter communication (check for what Houses Mercury rules in your chart for more insight).
Mars conjunct Vertex → can trigger fated action (check for what Houses Mars rules in your chart for more insight).
Outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) hitting the Vertex → long-term turning points that alter your direction permanently.

The Vertex in Synastry
A lot of people first encounter the Vertex when looking at relationship astrology. In synastry, when someone’s planet touches your Vertex, it often feels electric—like your souls were destined to cross paths. There’s an instant attraction and/or curiosity for getting to know that person.
But here’s the truth: The Vertex isn’t only about romance. It’s about encounters with meaning. Some people stay, others don’t, but allll of them leave a mark that changes your story.
From that person you may learn more about what you need in partnership. You may evolve into a greater sense of self-worth, or raise your standards. You may learn not to trust so easy, or ignore red flags. Either way, you will learn something vital that forever shapes how you move through life after meeting this person.
For example, I was recently seeing someone who had their Midheaven at 27º Aries, 1º away from my Vx. I triggered in them a career change, and to get clarity on how they were aligned with their highest potential and path moving forward (Midheaven themes). They literally quit their job to start a new one (Aries) while we were seeing each other.
How to Work With Your Vertex
Find it in your chart. Look for “Vx” in your chart calculator (https://astro.com/ will show you this when you add it in under “additional objects” in the extended chart calculator).
Note the house. This is the area of life where portals open and the magic happens.
Note the sign. This colors how fated events arrive, the energy of how it shows up.
Track transits. See what happens when planets align with your Vertex—especially Venus, the Sun, outer planets, and the ruling planet of your Vx. The Moon’s transits are ones you can track the most consistently to monitor this. (The last time the Moon was conjunct my Vx I randomly met someone at a Hot Springs)
The Antivertex: The Other Side of the Story
Where there’s a Vertex, there’s always an Antivertex—sitting exactly opposite it in the chart (similar to the North/South Nodes).
If the Vertex is the “doorway” through which fated people and events walk into your life, the Antivertex is like the window through which you look out.
Vertex → What comes to you from others.
Antivertex → How you reach out or project your energy into the world.
In practice, the Antivertex often shows how you initiate encounters that feel destined. It’s less about what’s handed to you, and more about the places you go, the things you say, or the situations you step into that put you on a collision course with the right people at the right time.
For example:
5th / 11th Axis
With your Vertex in the 5th House and Antivertex in the 11th House, you may meet fated lovers, creative partners, or even soul-level connections through play, romance, or children. But the encounter is often set in motion by the communities, groups, or friendships you’re part of. The spark of destiny feels personal and romantic (5th), but it’s born from the larger circles you step into (11th). Or even social media/dating apps (also 11th House).
6th / 12th Axis
With your Vertex in the 6th House and Antivertex in the 12th House, you may meet fated connections through the daily rhythm of work, health, or routine. Yet the encounter is also shaped by the spiritual spaces you create for yourself—the solitude, intuition, or hidden realms of the 12th house. Someone may show up in the middle of your everyday world (6th), but the invisible, mystical energy you radiate from the 12th is what magnetizes them. You could also manifest people into your life through journaling, meditation, etc.
7th / 1st Axis
With your Vertex in the 7th House and Antivertex in the 1st House, you may meet fated partners through their approach to you, but you’ll also notice you’re unconsciously radiating energy that draws these connections in. Destiny arrives in the form of “the other,” (7th) but it is triggered by how fully you embody yourself (1st).
8th / 2nd Axis
With your Vertex in the 8th House and Antivertex in the 2nd House, someone might show up to trigger deep transformation, but the encounter is also shaped by your own values and sense of security. Encounters feel magnetic, intimate, and life-changing (8th), yet they’re rooted in how you claim your worth and hold your ground (2nd).
9th / 3rd Axis
With your Vertex in the 9th House and Antivertex in the 3rd House, you may meet fated teachers, mentors, or partners while traveling, studying, or expanding your worldview. But the opening often begins with how you share ideas, write, or speak in your everyday life. A casual conversation or local connection (3rd) can unexpectedly unlock an expansive destiny (9th), or change in your perspective of life.
Where the Vertex feels like “destiny arrives,” the Antivertex reminds us that you are also part of the equation. Fate isn’t only external—it’s co-created through your choices, your presence, and your willingness to engage.
My Take
To me, the Vertex is a reminder that life isn’t just about what you plan… it’s also about the mystery of what finds you. And what was meant to find you, through divine timing.
We often wonder: Am I doing enough? Am I manifesting correctly? Am I on track?
The Vertex whispers back: “Relax. Some things are already written. Your only job is to notice the magic when it arrives.”
I have my Vx in Aries, in the 7th House. I often meet people through moments of spontaneity and it is always a confirmation that I am on the right path/track. If you follow me on Instagram you may have already heard these stories but here are a few examples anyway.
When I was traveling through the South of France, headed for Paris, I set the intention that I wanted to go dancing once I got back to the city. The next night—I was eating at a fast food chain when a man comes up to me and asks if I have a phone charger. I say no… but he was trying to hit on me so he sticks around and we strike a conversation. He then invites me dancing with him and his friend that night. He has Venus in Aries, and his Vertex (in Leo) trines mine. A fated encounter that showed me I was indeed, in the right place at the right time. Because I always meant people in the most aligned ways when I am.
Final Thoughts
The Vertex in astrology isn’t about control—it’s about trust. It reminds us that we’re co-creating our lives with the universe. The most important chapters might be the ones we never planned.
