Nothing in Your Human Design Is Random: How Astrology Creates Your Human Design Chart

One of the most mind-blowing things I ever learned about Human Design is that absolutely nothing in your chart is random.

Not your Profile.

Not your Authority.

Not your Environment.

Not your Digestion.

Not even the direction your Arrows face (if you’re looking at a chart that shows you the Arrows ;) which my website’s chart calculator does).

Everything in your Human Design chart is determined by your Astrology.

Every single thing.

And once you understand this, Human Design becomes even cooler.

Because Human Design isn't separate from Astrology.

Human Design is built on Astrology.

The exact degrees, minutes, and placements of your natal Astrology chart are what create your Human Design chart.

This is why I have always taught Astrology and Human Design together.

Because when you understand both systems, they unlock each other.

Human Design Is Astrology in Disguise

Most people learn Human Design first.

They learn they're a Manifesting Generator.

Or a 4/1 Profile.

Or a Splenic Authority.

Or maybe they discover they have Indirect Determination or Shores Environment.

But what many people don't realize is that all of these things come directly from the nitty-gritty specifics of your Astrology chart.

Human Design takes the exact positions of the planets at the moment you were born (and approximately 88 days before birth for the unconscious astrology chart) and translates that information into your BodyGraph.

Nothing is random.

Everything is calculated.

Which means your Human Design chart contains an incredible amount of astrological information.

Let's Look at Environment as an Example

Let's use Environment as an example because it's one of my favorite concepts in Human Design.

Your Environment tells you the type of space that is most supportive for your alignment, health, intuition, and overall life path.

In Human Design, we often say:

Correct environment = correct life.

Because when you're in the right environment, life tends to flow more easily.

You feel more like yourself.

You make better decisions.

You attract the right people and opportunities.

Your Environment comes from the bottom left Arrow in your Human Design chart.

The circled Arrow is your “Environment” Arrow/Variable

Specifically, it comes from the larger number associated with that Arrow.

For example:

If your larger number is a 5, your Environment will always be Valleys.

That part never changes.

Whether you are Wide Valleys or Narrow Valleys depends on the direction the Arrow faces.

If the Arrow points right, you're Wide Valleys.

If the Arrow points left, you're Narrow Valleys.

Simple.

But where does this information come from?

Astrology.

Specifically, your unconscious North and South Node placements.

Mind. Blown.

Your Digestion Works the Same Way

The same thing happens with Determination (also called Digestion).

Your Determination reveals how your body is designed to take in and process food, information, and life itself.

This information comes from the top left Arrow.

Again, the larger number determines the overarching Determination.

The direction the Arrow faces determines the variation.

Let's say the larger number is 4.

If the Arrow points left, the person has Calm Digestion.

If the Arrow points right, they have Nervous Digestion.

Again, not random.

Entirely calculated.

Entirely astrological.

The Arrows Go Much Deeper Than Most People Realize

And honestly?

We're only scratching the surface.

The larger number in each Arrow is called the Color.

The smaller number is called the Tone.

Sometimes you'll see the Color represented by a circle and the Tone represented by a triangle.

These tiny numbers determine an incredible amount about how you operate.

Your cognition.

Your motivation.

Your perspective.

Your environment.

Your determination.

The direction your Arrows face.

Even the direction your Arrows face comes from the Tone.

Yes.

It's that deep.

This is why I love Human Design so much.

There are layers upon layers upon layers.

The deeper you go, the more fascinating it becomes.

Why Learning Astrology Makes Human Design Easier

One of the reasons I teach Astrology and Human Design together is because understanding Astrology often makes Human Design significantly easier to understand.

Your unconscious Astrology chart explains so much about your Variables.

Your Nodes explain your environment.

Planetary placements explain gates and channels.

Your chart tells a cohesive story.

And when you begin looking at both systems together, you start seeing patterns everywhere.

Suddenly, your Human Design chart doesn't feel random.

It feels deeply intentional.

Because it is.

Human Design Is a Roadmap Back to Yourself

At its core, Human Design is a system of alignment.

It's about understanding how you uniquely operate.

How you're designed to make decisions.

How you're designed to learn.

How you're designed to eat.

Work.

Rest.

Create.

Relate.

And ultimately, how you're designed to live in alignment with your authentic self.

Understanding your Variables—your Environment, Determination, Motivation, Perspective, and Cognition—can completely transform the way you move through life.

Because when you understand yourself, life gets easier.

You stop trying to be everyone else.

And start trusting who you already are.
